Super model/designer/actress Iman was presented with the CFDA Fashion Icon Award. She is the first back women to have ever received such a prestigious award. This award is coveted in the fashion industry and is given to those whose signature style has a major influence on fashion. Previous winners have been fashion icons such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Moss. Iman arrived with her husband David Bowie wearing a black strapless Giambattisti Valli dress.
Iman born Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid. She was born in Magadishu, Samalia in 1955. Iman was discovered by American photographer Peter Beard and shortly after moved to the US to pursue a career in modeling. Iman was an instant success and graced such magazine covers Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle, Ebony, Essence, Jet, etc.. In 1992, she married her third husband musician David Bowie. The two have one child together Alexandria Zahra "Lexi" Jones. Iman has another child from a previous marriage Zulekha Haywood (NBA player Spencer Haywood) and her husband David has a child from a previous marriage also. Iman is a a mother, a cosmetics executive, and a paragon of true class, grace and elegance. Congratulations to such a phenomenal woman!
